These conditions are reportable in New York State, and the Department conducts surveillance to inform public health response. This dashboard displays New York State case and hospitalization data for Influenza, COVID-19, and RSV.

It is updated weekly on Fridays. Data are provisional and subject to change. Methodological Notes Permitted clinical and limited-service laboratories that perform testing for influenza, COVID-19, and RSV using a qualified laboratory test are required to report positive results to New York State.

“Case” refers to person with a positive qualified lab test for influenza, COVID-19, or RSV identified in the Communicable Disease Electronic Surveillance System (CDESS). Case data presented are provisional and may be updated as reports are received by the Department. Hospitals are required to report the aggregate number of hospitalizations associated with laboratory-confirmed influenza, COVID-19 or RSV, by age group, on a weekly basis.

Hospitalization data are collected through the Respiratory Hospitalizations and Deaths Survey, on the Department's Survey Management and Response Tool (SMART). Hospitals are required to complete this survey each Wednesday for the prior Sunday – Saturday time period. Hospitalization data are provisional and may be updated as reports are received by the Department.

"Hospitalized" refers to patients admitted as inpatients in either inpatient or observation beds, and does not include patients that were treated and released from an Emergency Department. Prior to October 2026, this data was collected via HERDS, the department's Health Electronic Response Data System. Population estimates come from the US Census Population and Housing Unit Estimates Program .

Population data will be updated annually on July 1. This may result in disjunctions in trend lines on that date.
